The Aggie Nation Makes a Powerful Statement at the NBA HBCU Classic in Los Angeles
In a thrilling display of unity and pride, over 600 alumni from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) gathered in Los Angeles on February 17, 2026, to witness their men's basketball team's remarkable victory over Hampton University. The game, held at the Kia Forum, a former home of the L.A. Lakers, became an instant classic, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
The NBA HBCU Classic showcased the incredible talent and spirit of the Aggies, who dominated the court with a final score of 71-70. This victory was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and the alumni community.
The N.C. A&T alumni had a jam-packed schedule during their four-day stay in LA. They kicked things off with a warm welcome at the L.A. Live event center in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, followed by the NBA All-Star 2026 event on Sunday. The highlights of their stay included a pre-game mixer on Friday and a successful fundraising dinner on Saturday, both held at the Hyatt Regency LAX.
"Aggies make a difference," said Tamara Michel Josserand, vice chancellor for Advancement. "It was truly inspiring to witness the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment of Aggies from all over the country. They came together to celebrate our students, our moment in the national spotlight, and the pride of being Aggies."
The Aggies' enthusiasm was palpable as they arrived in Los Angeles as early as Tuesday, eager to soak up the sunny Southern California weather and prepare for the weekend's festivities. The real action began on Thursday night with a welcome event for both N.C. A&T and Hampton at L.A. Live, featuring a battle of the bands, music, games, and a massive Foot Locker merchandise pop-up.
On Friday, Aggies gathered at the Hyatt Regency LAX for two special events. They had an invitation-only morning meet-and-greet with NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, followed by an afternoon pre-game mixer. This mixer was a buffet extravaganza, complete with music and remarks from Chancellor James R. Martin II and legendary A&T alumnus Willie A. Deese '77, who is leading the All Aggies, All In athletics capital campaign.
The excitement continued at the Kia Forum, where the Aggies faced off against Hampton University. The game was a nail-biter from the start, with Hampton taking the lead at times by as many as 9 points. However, the Aggies showed their resilience, clawing their way back into the game in the final two minutes. The sold-out arena erupted in cheers as the Aggies secured their victory, and the game's thrilling finish made headlines on ESPN's SportsCenter.
But the Aggies' celebration didn't end there. On Saturday night, 300 Aggies came together for a special fundraising dinner titled 'Aggie Love: From the Heart to the Sole.' This event aimed to raise funds for the All Aggies, All In campaign, and it was a resounding success, raising nearly $320,000. W. Thomas Stanley, a member of the university's Board of Trustees and co-chair of the campaign, expressed his enthusiasm for the strong support shown by the student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the court.
The Aggie Nation's statement at the NBA HBCU Classic was a powerful display of community and support, leaving a lasting impact on all who witnessed it.
